These terms govern your use of Grilled Cheese. Effective 10 September 2026.
Grilled Cheese is operated by 186282 Inc., trading as Village Compute ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to what follows. If you do not agree, do not use Grilled Cheese.
1. Who may use Grilled Cheese
You must be at least 18 years old, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account and may ask you to confirm it again.
You may not use Grilled Cheese if we have previously terminated your account, unless we have said otherwise in writing.
2. Your account and your identities
An account is one person. An identity is a presence you keep on that account. Your plan sets how many identities you may have.
You are responsible for what happens under your account, including everything posted from any of its identities. Keep your password to yourself, use two-factor authentication if you can, and tell us at [email protected] if you believe someone else has access.
You may not:
-
create an account on someone else’s behalf without their authority;
-
use identities to evade a block, a mute, a suspension, or a moderation decision;
-
impersonate a person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation with one;
-
sell, rent, or transfer an account or an identity.
3. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. Posting does not transfer copyright to us.
You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical purposes (such as resizing or transcoding), publish, and distribute your content, for the purpose of operating and improving Grilled Cheese. That licence lasts as long as we host the content and for a reasonable period afterwards for backups.
Federation. Grilled Cheese takes part in the ActivityPub and ATProto networks. If your identity federates, your public posts and profile are transmitted to other servers, which are operated by other people. We cannot recall, delete, or control content on those servers. Deleting a post here sends a deletion request outward, and most servers honour it, but we cannot guarantee any of them will. Your federation settings are under Settings → Sharing across networks, and you should choose them with this in mind.
You are responsible for having the rights to what you post, including any music, images, or video in it.
4. What you may not post
Do not post content that:
-
is unlawful, or promotes or facilitates unlawful activity;
-
sexually exploits or endangers a minor, in any form;
-
threatens, harasses, or incites violence against a person or group;
-
infringes someone’s copyright, trademark, or other rights;
-
is malware, a phishing attempt, or a scam;
-
misrepresents its origin in order to deceive;
-
discloses another person’s private information without their consent.
We may remove content, limit its reach, label it, or suspend or terminate an account or an identity for breaching this section. Where we act, we will usually say what we did and why. Settings → Account → Moderation record shows actions taken against your account and any identity on it, and you may appeal there.
4a. Our Community Standards
Our Community Standards say in more detail what is and is not allowed on Grilled Cheese, and how content that is allowed but has to be labeled or gated is handled. They are incorporated into these terms by this reference and form part of them. Breaking the Community Standards is breaking these terms, and we may act under section 4 when you do.
The Community Standards describe day-to-day moderation, so we may update them as the product and the problems change, without changing these terms. The version in force is always the one published at https://docs.grilledcheese.app/community-standards. Where a change to them would materially reduce what you are allowed to do here, we will give notice the way section 12 requires for a change to these terms.
4b. Child safety
Grilled Cheese prohibits child sexual abuse and exploitation absolutely, and our Child Safety Standards set out what that covers, how to report it, and what we do about it. They are incorporated into these terms by this reference and form part of them.
Breaching that standard ends the account. Not the post, and not for a while: the account, permanently, and section 8’s ordinary notice and appeal do not apply to it. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and cooperate with valid legal process. Nothing in section 4’s usual "we will say what we did and why" limits what we report or to whom.
5. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Grilled Cheese infringes your copyright, send a notice to [email protected] including: the work you say is infringed; where the infringing material is; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is unauthorised; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them; and your signature.
We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.
6. Paid subscriptions
Grilled Cheese is free to use. Grilled Cheese Premium is an optional paid subscription that raises some limits and unlocks some extra features. Nothing you can already do on a free account stops working because you did not buy it.
We do not sell tickets, and these terms do not cover any purchase other than a Premium subscription.
6a. Plans and price
Premium is sold as a monthly plan and an annual plan. Some benefits are annual-only, and the plan you are buying says which.
The price, the billing period, and any tax are shown before you confirm, and those are the terms you are agreeing to. Prices vary by country and by where you buy.
6b. Where you bought it is where you manage it
You can buy Premium through Apple’s App Store, through Google Play, or from us on the web. Whichever you use takes the payment, and that is also where the subscription is managed and cancelled:
-
Apple: in your Apple Account settings, on the device.
-
Google Play: in the Play Store’s subscriptions screen.
-
The web: at https://grilledcheese.app/settings/premium, which is also where you change a card.
Where a store takes the payment, that store’s own terms govern the transaction between you and it. We never receive or store your card number.
6c. It renews automatically
A Premium subscription renews by itself. It keeps renewing for the same period, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. For a store purchase the charge is normally made within 24 hours before the current period ends.
You can cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for, and Premium keeps working until that period runs out. To avoid being charged again, cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
If a renewal payment fails, Premium keeps working for a short grace period while the payment is retried. If it still does not go through, Premium ends.
6d. Refunds
Where you bought it decides who can refund it:
-
Through Apple or Google Play: refunds are theirs to give, under their policies, not ours. We will point you to the right place, but we cannot issue the refund ourselves.
-
From us on the web: write to [email protected].
Beyond that, we do not refund the unused part of a period already paid for.
None of this reduces rights you have under the consumer law where you live. In the UK and the EEA you generally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content, and you can lose that right once delivery has begun with your agreement, which for a subscription means when Premium switches on.
6e. Changes to the price, and to what Premium includes
We may change the price. Where the change affects a subscription you already have, we will tell you before it takes effect, in time for you to cancel first. Where the store you bought through requires your consent before charging a new price, the change does not reach you until you give it.
We may also add to, change, or remove what Premium includes. Where a change takes away a benefit you are actually using, we will give notice the way section 12 requires. Anything we describe as coming later is not part of what you are buying today.
6f. When Premium ends
When a subscription ends, for any reason, the Premium features stop. We do not delete what you made while subscribed; the free limits simply apply again to what you make after that.
If a purchase is refunded or charged back, the Premium it paid for ends with it.
If we end your account under section 8, or under section 4b, any Premium on it ends too, and is not refunded.
7. Availability
We try to keep Grilled Cheese running and to warn you about planned downtime, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features.
8. Ending it
You may stop using Grilled Cheese at any time, and may delete an identity or your whole account from Settings → Account. Deleting your account removes your identities and their content from our service; copies already federated to other servers are outside our control.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you would expose us or other users to harm. Except where the breach is serious or unlawful, we will give you notice and an opportunity to respond.
9. Disclaimers
Grilled Cheese is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not endorse and are not responsible for content posted by users, for content reached through federation, or for anything on a site we link to.
10. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Village Compute is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill.
Our total liability arising out of or relating to these terms or the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) USD 100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; where that is so, they apply only to the extent permitted.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Village Compute against claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your content, your use of Grilled Cheese, or your breach of these terms.
12. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. Where a change is material we will give notice, in the app, by email, or both, before it takes effect, and will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Grilled Cheese after a change takes effect means you accept it.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Vermont, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Vermont, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
Nothing here removes a consumer-protection right you have under the law of where you live that cannot be waived by agreement.
14. General
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Community Standards and the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Grilled Cheese.
